Mercedes-Benz’s W123 line of cars has the distinction of being the company’s most successful model ever produced.  With 6.7 million cars generated over its ten year production run, the 300 CD Turbo Diesel was among them.  Its success was not undeserved; with its superior build quality and bullet-proof diesel engines, these cars were worthy of Mercedes’ claim that they were “engineered like no other car in the world.”

Given their legendary reputation for reliability and longevity of service, it is not uncommon to find examples with a quarter million miles or more in the market today, but what we have here is a rarity--a meticulously maintained 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300 CD with less than 75,000 original miles.  Finished in Champagne Metallic with a complementing Palomino leather interior, this car’s finish has a beautiful luster.  The chrome and bright-work is also in excellent condition, a testament to the care this car has received through the years.

The interior of this 300 CD tells a similar story.  Its rich leather seats—a rare option in these cars—gives the cabin a pleasing scent and a feeling of luxury.  Also exuding luxury is its genuine wood trim—completely free of cracks or delamination of finish.   Similarly, the dashboard is devoid of any cracks.  The door panels, carpeting and headliner are also virtually free of wear.

Features that will add to your enjoyment of this car include the following comfort and convenience options:

  • Optional power moonroof
  • Power windows
  • Central locking system
  • Climate control
  • Power steering
  • Power four-wheel disc brakes
  • Cruise control
  • Electrically heated rear window
  • Automatic antenna
  • 2-speed windshield wipers with 5-second interval mist control
  • Electrically operated right mirror
  • Quartz chronometer
  • Becker AM/FM stereo radio with cassette player
  • Light alloy wheels
  • First aid kit

With the exception of the tachometer and automatic antenna, all power options work as they should, including the ice cold air conditioning.  One other item of note is that the paint, although in excellent condition, exhibits minor imperfections that do not detract from the overall appearance of the car.

Powered by a 3.0 liter 5-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, this car runs and drives as well as it looks, having recently completed an 1,100 mile trip from Florida to Ohio without any issues.  Regularly dealer serviced, the car benefits from the following more recent mechanical updates:

  • Front brakes
  • Tires
  • Belts
  • Alternator
  • Rear sway bars
  • Drag link and steering dam
  • Adjustment of steering gear box
  • Alignment
  • Driveshaft center support and bearings
  • Door lock vacuum system

This work was completed by Florida Mercedes-Benz dealers, including Central Florida Eurocars, Robert G. Waters, Inc., and Mercedes-Benz of Orlando.  Related receipts for this work and all other available service records will be provided to the next owner of this car.  Other paperwork included is the original window sticker and all owner’s and warranty manuals.

Originally sold in Greeley, Colorado, this car was subsequently owned by an older couple that resided in England and wintered in Florida, where they kept the car for use when in the States.  Brought to Ohio in 2011, it has continued to be properly stored indoors, and has received the best of care.

If one of the most beautifully maintained 300 CDs with the lowest mileage available is what you desire, this is the car for you.
