Classic Car Facts

Frame-off restoration … Beautiful Snowshoe White exterior with coordinating white and red interior … Black soft top … Power seat …

In 1955, Ford Motor Company promoted its new  Thunderbird as “a personal car of distinction.”  In 2011, this description is just as fitting.

The classic elegance of Ford’s premier personal luxury car can be yours with this beautifully restored 1955 Ford Thunderbird!  Finished in understated and elegant Snowshoe White, its mirror-like finish is further enhanced by the car’s contrasting black soft top and coordinating red and white interior, which are in excellent condition.  An abundance of chrome further enhances both the exterior and interior of this classic.  Powered by a 198 horsepower 292 cubic inch V8 and Ford-O-Matic drive automatic transmission, this car runs and drives as well as it looks.

In addition to the luxury features that came standard on this car, it is well equipped with the following optional items:

  • Engine dress kit
  • Ford-O-Matic drive automatic transmission
  • Power brakes
  • Power steering
  • Power seat
  • Telescope steering wheel
  • Whitewall tires

In 1993, the car underwent a two year professional frame-off restoration, and has been driven only approximately 2,000 miles since that time.  Available photographs documenting its restoration will be included with sale.  At the time of restoration, the engine and transmission were professionally examined, and it was determined that they did not require rebuild.  However, a new harmonic balancer was installed and the transmission was sealed with new gaskets.  Additionally, the car’s power steering was rebuilt, and the windshield wiper motor and fuel pump have been replaced.  In addition, the car’s dual exhaust system was replaced with a stainless steel one when the car was restored.  Cosmetically, the car was sandblasted prior to being professionally repainted from its original Black finish to Snowshoe White.  Additionally, the car received a brand new convertible top and a new set of Coker white wall tires.

A few items of note are that the heater does not currently furnish heat to the passenger compartment, although the blower motor works as it should.  All gauges, including the clock and tachometer, function as they should.  The car’s paint has a beautiful luster, but there are a few minor chips that do not detract from the overall appearance of the car.  However, a gallon of the paint that was used at the time of restoration was retained and will be provided to the next owner for future touch-ups with perfect color match.  Although the car has always been kept indoors and not driven in the elements since restoration, there are some minor bubbles on the driver’s side rocker panel just to the left of the skirt and between the windshield and hood to the left of the wiper arm that should be noted.  In addition, although the odometer shows approximately 14,000 miles, total actual mileage is unknown.  The clear Ohio title reflects the car’s mileage as “non-actual.”

The most recent owner owned and enjoyed this car since July 1991.  Since being restored, the car has always received the best of care, and has always been properly stored indoors, including being placed on jack stands for longer periods of storage.  In addition, this classic has been dealer maintained and serviced since its restoration, ensuring that it will thrill for many years to come.

Make today the day to begin the next chapter of this beautifully restored Thunderbird’s history!
