Classic Car Facts

The 1957 Mercurys were cars of beauty.  With innovative styling, powerful engines, and a seemingly endless array of color and trim options, Mercury boasted that its 1957 model was “America’s first production dream car—the ‘shape of the future’—in every line and feature.”

This stunning 1957 Mercury Monterey 2-door hardtop is finished in eye-catching Persimmon and Classic White.  Its base coat/clear coat finish has a beautiful luster that further accentuates its chrome and brightwork that it wears like fine jewelry.  The chrome on this Monterey is in excellent condition, having benefited from more recent re-chroming.  Its gold-anodized badging and ornamentation provide additional distinction.  Massive front and rear bumpers, polished dual exhaust tips, bright wheel covers and wide whitewall tires add to this Monterey’s refined look.  Without a doubt, this car has presence.

The interior of this car is equally striking, featuring deluxe Black and White vinyl seating areas.  An impressive and commanding dash board features a multitude of recessed gauges and warning lights that will keep you informed about what’s going on under the hood.  You’ll also appreciate the convenience of its working clock and AM radio.

Under the hood you will find a rare optional “Turnpike Cruiser” 368 CID V-8 mated to a push button “Merc-o-Matic Drive” 3-speed automatic transmission—a powerhouse that generates an impressive 290 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.  Featuring a professionally rebuilt transmission, this car runs and drives beautifully.  Its power steering will keep you firmly in control at the helm.  Other mechanical updates include the following:

  • New Carter fuel pump
  • Rebuilt power steering system & pump
  • New oil pump
  • Rebuilt 4-barrel “Thermo-matic” carburetor
  • New wheel cylinders & brakes
  • Re-cored radiator
  • Rebuilt water pump
  • New spark plugs, wires, points, condenser & cap
  • New dual exhaust (to resonators)
  • Newer wide whitewall radial tires
  • New suspension components

Having just 33,800 original miles, this well cared for car runs and drives as well as it looks, and is ready to enjoy.

Originally owned by a doctor’s wife in Mississippi, this Monterey has been owned and enjoyed by its most recent owner for the past seven years and has been regularly driven and always properly stored indoors when not in use.  Records and receipts of all work done will be provided to the next owner of this car.

Minor imperfections in the finish do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.

If a truly striking and seldom-seen mid-1950s car in an eye-catching color combination is what you desire, this 1957 Mercury Monterey is the one for you!
