Frame off award winning restoration … Stunning Gunmetal Mist exterior with black interior and top … Trailer-load of valuable spare parts included …

Let the warm sun and the cool breeze embrace you with the top down in this stunning fully restored 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible!  Finished in striking Gunmetal Mist with coordinating black interior and top, this car’s flawless finish has a mirror-like luster.  The exterior is further enhanced by an abundance of show quality chrome that is sure to garner attention on the open road and at car shows alike.

Powered by an air cooled 1,584 cc 4 cylinder engine with pushrod operated overhead valves and a Solex 34 PICT-3 carburetor, this car runs and drives as well as it looks.  It also features an “Automatic Stickshift” clutchless manual transmission that further enhances the driving experience.  The engine and transmission were professionally rebuilt during the car’s three year frame-off restoration, which was completed in August of 2007. Since that time, it has been driven under 2,000 miles!  In addition to the car’s fully restored and detailed engine compartment, the undercarriage is as clean as the rest of the car, having been powder coated during restoration.

In addition to the items noted above, other significant items replaced or refurbished during the car’s restoration include the following:

  • Laser straight professional repaint with clear coat
  • Front traverse link axle, coil springs, and MacPherson struts
  • Rear independent spring torsion bars with semi-trailing arms and
  •      double-jointed drive shafts
  • Drum brakes with 15” x 4.5” steel painted wheels
  • Convertible top and interior

The car has received many trophies and awards since its restoration, and most recently earned 975 points out of 1,000 at the prestigious Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens 53rd Annual Classic, Antique, & Collector Car Show, attesting to the quality of the restoration performed.  All records and receipts from the restoration, as well as a photograph album documenting the restoration process will be included with sale.  In addition, 13 Volkswagen service manuals and reference books will be provided to the next owner (a listing of which will be provided upon request).  Also included with sale is a trailer-load full of over 70 valuable and hard to find Volkswagen spare parts that were accumulated over the course of many years from numerous swap meets.  A partial list of the more significant spare parts included comprises the following:

  • Header bow panel
  • Wheel covers (4)
  • Rear tail light assemblies (L/R)
  • Tail light bezels
  • Horn ring
  • Front head light bezels (2)
  • Radio bezel
  • Oil pumps
  • Rearview mirror and light assembly
  • Chrome dress-up kit
  • Glove compartment door and bezel

A full listing of spare parts included will be provided upon request.

This car was originally purchased on November 12, 1970 from Dragan-Sideras Motors of North Olmsted, Ohio.  The car was subsequently sold in 1999 to the gentleman who undertook its first class restoration, at which time it had approximately 65,000 original miles.  As the engine and transmission were rebuilt during its restoration and are not original to the car, the clear Ohio title appropriately reflects the car’s mileage as “non-actual.”  Since being restored, the car has always received the best of care, ensuring that it will thrill for many years to come.

Make today the day to begin the next chapter of this beautifully restored Volkswagen’s history!
