Classic Car Facts

Buick’s Riviera was always a car of distinction.  As Buick’s flagship model, it exemplified a unique combination of styling, luxury, and sportiness that appealed to the well-heeled.  And top in exclusivity at almost twice the cost of a coupe—and exceeding the cost of many Cadillacs—was the gorgeous Riviera convertible.  Introduced in 1982, it was the first convertible GM produced since the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado.  Just 3,898 were produced during its four-year production run, with 1,750 attributable to the 1983 model year—a rare car indeed.

This gorgeous 1983 Buick Riviera Convertible is finished in White and has a beautiful luster.  Its finish is further enhanced by an abundance of chrome and brightwork that is in excellent condition.  Its complementing Red pinstripes and custom wire wheel covers add additional notes of distinction.

The interior is similarly refined, featuring luxurious Red leather seating areas and rich wood appliqués.  The seating areas, carpeting, dashboard, and door panels are in very good condition. Its optional Delco-GM cassette tape and ETR AM-FM stereo radio will add to your driving pleasure.

You will also appreciate this car’s long list of standard and optional comfort and convenience items, including the following:

  • Power windows
  • Automatic electric door locks
  • Automatic power antenna
  • Power driver’s & passenger’s seat
  • Power passenger’s seatback recliner
  • Electric trunk release
  • Electric control sport mirrors
  • Twilight Sentinel
  • Four note horn
  • Illuminated door lock & interior light control
  • Low fuel indicator
  • 2-speed windshield wipers/delay
  • Cruise control
  • Tilt steering column
  • Carpeted floor mats
  • Touch climate control air conditioning

All power options work as they should, with the exception of the electric trunk release.

Powered by a 4-barrel carbureted 307 CID V-8 and a four-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain is considered to be one of the most reliable of its time.  Having 92,400 miles, this well-maintained car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Owned by the most recent owner for the last six years, this well-maintained car benefits from a newly rebuilt transmission, new CV boots, and new ABS plastic front and rear fender fillers.  Those who appreciate originality will also appreciate this car’s original window sticker, manuals, and sales brochure, all of which will be included with sale.

Minor imperfections in the finish and chrome do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.  In addition, the car could benefit from new rear trunk lift supports.

If an ultra-rare and well cared for 6th generation Riviera convertible is what you desire, this is the car for you!
