Classic Car Facts

The Mercury Marauder has long been known for its intimidating looks, commanding handling, and brute power, all encompassed in its full-size platform.  Mercury paid tribute to this legacy in 2003 with the re-launch of its Marauder, a car that sported suspension, powertrain and styling cues that were unique to the model.  Prized among collectors and driving enthusiasts, it is one of just 7,838 produced in 2003 and one of 11,052 produced over its brief two-year run.

Finished in Black clearcoat, this one-family owned 2003 Mercury Marauder’s finish has a beautiful luster.  Its monochromatic look is afforded by its blacked-out grille and front and rear bumpers unique to the model.  The front bumper features a functional central air intake that aids in engine breathing, as well as Cibie 55-watt high intensity fog lamps.  The rear bumper includes the “Marauder” name embossed in red letters.  Other styling cues include its smoked tail lamps, 3.5” polished stainless dual exhaust tips and 18” polished forged aluminum alloy wheels wrapped with low-profile Michelins.

Sportiness is not relegated the exterior on this Marauder, however.  The interior features comfortable bucket seats finished in Dark Charcoal Nudo perforated leather.  The front seatbacks also include handsomely embossed Mercury god heads—a nod to the marque’s rich heritage.  A handy center console will keep you both comfortable and organized.  You’ll also appreciate its full complement of analog satin aluminum gauges that will keep you fully informed about what’s going on under the hood.  Its Autophile AM/FM/CD player is enhanced by its subwoofer and 100-watt amplifier, as well as its optional trunk-mounted 6-disc CD changer.  Its electronic automatic temperature control will keep you comfortable, no matter what the temperature outside.  Other comfort and convenience features include the following:

  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Power windows and door locks
  • 8-way power driver’s and passenger’s seats with power lumbar and recline
  • Power adjustable pedals
  • Electric remote decklid release
  • Autolamp on/off headlamp delay system
  • Luxury sound insulation package
  • Remote keyless entry system
  • Fingertip speed control
  • Tilt steering column
  • Electrochromatic (auto-dimming) rearview mirror
  • Electric rear window defroster
  • Securilock antitheft system
  • Traction control
  • Optional trunk organizer

All power options work as they should, including the ice-cold air conditioning.

Under the hood is where things really get interesting.  No run-of-the-mill engine powers this sleeper; its SVT-tuned 4.6-liter twin cam 32-valve aluminum head V-8 is shared with the Ford Mustang Mach I.  Mated to a 4-speed electronic automatic overdrive transmission and 3.55:1 limited slip differential, it generates an impressive 302 horsepower and 318 lb-ft of torque—enough to launch this 2-ton beast to 60 MPH in under 7.5 seconds.  Other factory performance enhancements include the following:

  • High-flow 2.25” true-dual exhaust
  • Speed sensitive and variable assist rack and pinion power steering
  • Power ventilated front and rear antilock disc brakes
  • Independent Short- and Long-Arm performance handling front suspension
  • Front coil over shock springs
  • Gas-pressurized monotube design front and rear shock absorbers
  • 28 mm front stabilizer bar
  • Rear performance handling solid-axle with PrecisionTrac Watts linkage
  • Load leveling rear air springs
  • 21 mm rear stabilizer bar

Recent maintenance and mechanical work include the following:

  • New tires (4,000 miles ago in 2021)
  • New thermostat, hoses and tensioner
  • New shocks and struts
  • New front and rear brakes
  • Newly rebuilt transmission

Originally purchased from Ganley Lincoln-Mercury in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, this well maintained one-family-owned car was owned consecutively by two brothers, the most recent of which has enjoyed it since 2016.  Having just 67,000 miles, this rare and desirable Marauder is ready to thrill its next owner!
