Classic Car Facts

1970 marked an important year for Oldsmobile—it was to be the last year it would offer the top-of-the-line Ninety-Eight in convertible form.  And what a convertible it was!  Long, low, and powerful, it was not without reason that Oldsmobile touted it as a car that cradles, pampers and caters to its owner.

This gorgeous 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight convertible is finished in a lustrous Maroon Metallic and features a newer Light Tan convertible top.  Its newer dual stage finish has a high metallic content and shines brilliantly.  Equally impressive is its abundance of chrome and brightwork, which are in excellent condition.  The car benefits from a newly rechromed rear bumperChrome tipped dual exhaust, Crager Star wire wheels, and Vogue tires complete the package.

The interior of this Ninety-Eight convertible is equally impressive, and features a newer custom interior in White with Red piping and accents.  A custom embroidered “Ninety-Eight” and Oldsmobile insignia embellishes each of its seats, as well as the convertible top boot, providing additional distinction.  You’ll also appreciate it removable front seat center arm rest, which features the convenience of two cup holders.  It also features a glove box mounted Sony AM/FM stereo with CD player that is Bluetooth compatible.  Well equipped, this Olds came equipped with the following comfort and convenience items:

  • Power convertible top
  • Power windows
  • Power door locks
  • Power seat
  • Tilt & Telecope steering wheel
  • Cruise control
  • Four Season air conditioning

With the exception of the cruise control, all power options work as they should, including the ice cold air conditioning.

Under the hood you will find a powerful 4-barrel carbureted Rocket 455 CID V-8 mated to a 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission.  No slouch on the road, this car generates an impressive 365 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.   The car has 93,700 original miles, but the engine was rebuilt approximately 12,000 miles ago and the transmission was rebuilt approximately 2,000 miles ago.  Other recent mechanical updates include the following:

  • New convertible top hydraulics
  • New air conditioning control head unit
  • New air conditioning compressor
  • New carburetor
  • New air cleaner
  • New hoses
  • New belts
  • New battery

This convertible runs and drives as well as it looks.

One item of note is that the original radio and clock are not currently working.  In addition, minor interior wear and minor imperfections in the finish do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.  Included with sale is a 1970 Fisher Body Service Manual.

If a gorgeous convertible that is ready to enjoy is what you desire, this 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight convertible is the car for you!
